Long before dermatologic skincare lines took over the beauty world, there was a little brand called DDF. A little brand that packed a huge wallop of hardcore science, that is. In 1991 Howard Sobel, a well-known dermatologist, founded a small cosmetic lab to create a line of non-prescription, professional-grade products that his patients could use at home.
In no time, Sobel's fast-acting acne treatments (like blemish-busting 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel with Tea Tree Oil, Sulfur Therapeutic Mask, and Pumice Acne Scrub) were flying out of his office in the eager hands of clients and beauty editors. As the demand grew to include some of the most prestigious medical and day spas across the country, Sobel knew he was getting in over his head. So he called in reinforcements: His sister, Elaine Linker.
In 1993, Dr. Sobel enlisted Linker, a successful advertising executive (who also happened to be a nutritionist) to help take his skincare brand to the next level. Linker, a woman who never met a challenge she didn't like, hit the ground running and DDF was born.
Doctors Dermatologic Formula (DDF) launched with one goal in mind: Create products that are efficient, easy to use, and target a wide range of real-life skincare needs. From sensitivity to serious acne control, age spots to allergies, DDF's comprehensive system has redefined the way we think about skincare. Their unique Cleanse, Protect, and Treat protocol, which aims to address their customers in the same way dermatologists assess their patients, resulted in a line of products defined by skin concerns rather than skin type. Every cleanser, moisturizer, and treatment product is created with a specific purpose: To strengthen the skin on the outside and on a cellular level.
It was evident from early on that DDF was not your ordinary prestige skincare company. As one of the first brands to develop their products based on trusted medical practices to work with your skin's physiology - and without a prescription - DDF had the attention of editors and industry experts from the get go. Their less is more philosophy - which focused on finding the right products, rather than lots of them - was a breath of fresh air for women (and men) searching for straightforward solutions to their skin problems. Despite its low-key profile, DDF continued to blossom, bringing us one technological breakthrough after another. From face-friendly, antioxidant-loaded sunscreens to one of the first topical, non-prescription products to mimic the effects of cosmetic injectables (Wrinkle Relax), to a revolutionary mix-it-yourself peel (7-Day Radiance Peel Kit), DDF's superior research and development continued to pay off as fans of the brand eagerly awaited the next innovation.
Over the next decade DDF delivered, and then some. With their latest launch, RMX, DDF takes antiaging to another level with a collection unlike anything the industry has ever seen. Based on growth factor proteins that train your cells to act like they did when you were younger, RMX Maximum is the first frozen, preservative-free product of its kind. According to Linker, that's just the beginning. "DDF plans to continue to conquer the world of biochemistry, developing formulations based on the scientific information of what keeps the body young," she says.
From no-frills packaging, to groundbreaking ingredients and cutting edge delivery systems, DDF sets the standard for modern skincare. As a brand that started in a Manhattan doctor's office, DDF is now improving complexions around the world. With its foot firmly planted in the future of skincare, we don't know what DDF will bring us next, but we can be certain that it'll change the world.
