SOOTHE DRY WINTER SKIN
When it comes to skincare, adjust your routine. Amirah G., a Manhattan aesthetician and owner of Amirah G. Beauty Space (877-664-1306), suggests skipping anything containing soap. Use cleansing milk instead; then moisturize based on your skin type. If you have dry skin year-round, you need a moisturizer with essential oils, shea butter or avocado oil. If you normally have combination or oily skin and are experiencing wintertime dryness, your skin is dehydrated. Pick oil-free lotions with hyaluronic acid, which prompts skin to rehydrate. For all skin types, Amirah G. recommends applying a serum before moisturizer. "Serums penetrate more deeply, providing maximum moisture," she says. Look for ones with hyaluronic acid, vitamins and lavender. Exfoliate at least twice a week to remove the buildup of dead cells.
HAND AND BODY CARE
To treat discoloration on decollete and hands, Amirah G. recommends using anything with whitening agents or hydroquinone to lighten the area. If you're sensitive to bleaches, try products with mulberry extract instead.
LATEST TREND: AT-HOME PEELS
As women are demanding the quickest results in the shortest amount of time, skincare companies are responding by bringing a popular spa treatment, the mild exfoliating peel, to the home. Do not use it more often than the directions recommend, and do a patch test on the side of your chin before the first use to make sure your skin can tolerate it. "If it burns, it's too harsh for you," cautions Amirah G.
