What does AmirahG.com do to secure my online purchases and how can I tell if a site is secure?
We take unusually high security measures for our client's purchases.
If a site is secure they will generally use 512-bit encryption. AmirahG.com utilizes a secure UNIX based webserver with 1024-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption. Without getting too technical, UNIX is a computer language that is well known for high levels of security and the 1024-bit SSL encryption is the highest grade commercially available encryption (only the Military and the CIA uses stronger encryption methods) for the best security.
When you shop online you can tell if your information is secure on a site. When you are in the checkout portion of a site, you should notice that the URL at the top of the screen has changed from http:// to https://. This means the site has switched over to a secure portion of the site where your information is safe.
Another way you can tell if a site is secure is usually at the bottom of the browser window, you will see a padlock. If the lock shows closed - this means this portion of the site is secure. If the lock is open or broken, this portion of the site is not secure.
How can I tell if a site is authentic and trustworthy?
Most sites on the Internet are safe, but to protect yourself as a consumer, we highly recommend that you make sure that a site contains at least all 3 of the following before you decide to shop and complete any transaction:
1. Make sure there is a phone number(s) on the web site so that you are able to call the company should you have any questions or problems.
2. Make sure there is a physical address listed on the web site (not a PO box). Most non-secure or fraudulant sites only exist in "cyberspace".
3. Make sure there is a valid website e-mail address (not only a form) through which you can send e-mail.
Most professional brands have agreements set up with their distributors to sell their products at the manufacturer's requested retail pricing. It is normal to have promotions and specials, but beware of unauthorized sites that consistently sell highly discounted products, especially if they can't be tied to a physical address or have no telephone number(s). Such sites might not have agreements set up with the respective manufacturers and therefore might not be legitimately reselling these products. It is highly likely that these discounted products may be expired products at the end of the products' "life cycle"or very near to the end of the products' "life cycle".
