AROMA-THERAPY: Aromatic Essential Oils used therapeutically
Aromatic essential oils are complex, volatile substances that are extracted from specific parts (organs) of plants ranging from root to blossom. Their micro molecular structure enables complete absorption and has a positive effect on the blood and lymphatic circulation, which is necessary for healthy skin.

Essences benefit the skin in many ways: balance the oxidation-reduction-phenomena, regulate glandular secretions, heal and 
regenerate, detoxify, firm and reduce topical hypersensitivity.

Depending on the dominating phyto chemicals contained within an aromatic oil will determine its primary function. Knowing the 
primary constituents (and skin benefits) is then essential when formulating with these active substances.

As aromatic essences work to improve the complexion, their unique aromas rebalance and strengthen the delicate nervous system. 
This is known as a psychotropic effect. Aromatherapy is a true holistic therapy for its effectiveness on our physical and emotional well being, not to mention better being.

PHYTO-THERAPY: Vegetal Extracts (non-aromatic) used therapeutically
Extracting the numerous active principals from the entire plant (galencial) as well as specific parts (and combinations of parts) is referred to as a vegetal extract. The extraction process is applied to either dried or fresh plants, and the range of active principals they contain is vast. They are used consistently throughout the entire YON-KA collection.

Of primary importance is the group of phytostimulants. Some pytostimulants are secreted by damaged vegetable tissues (insect bites, incisions) and, for this reason, are called wound hormones. They stimulate cellular activity, in order to accelerate the healing process of the plant and help it survive.

Others, like auxins, kinetins...promote growth phenomena. Still others have an action similar to that of animal estrogen hormones (phytohormones rich in estrogens) i.e. sage, licorice root, hop cone and Mexican yam.

Additional active principals contained in vegetal extracts are sugars, starches, aldehydes, gums, pectins, tannins, lipids, resins, acids and enzymes. Many are richly dosed with vitamins and minerals that are essential for extending the life of the cells that is critical to glowing complexion.

The methods of extraction used to express vegetal extracts are as extensive as the active principals they contain. To mention only a few: macertaion, deocoction, infusion, lyophilization, squeezing and solvent extraction (oil or aqueous).

FRUIT-THERAPY (acid): Fruit Acid Synergies for skin re-texturization
Fruit-therapy is a specialized sub-category of phytotherapy. At YON-KA we combine Alpha and Beta Hydroxyl acids to produce a safe 
and even exfoliation. Depending on how much actual fruit acid is used in a formula, and the pH, determines the exfoliation, hydration and cell renewal potential. Our collection offers complete diversity of products and performances for complete

A Familial Passion
Francoise and Catherine Multaler, a biochemist and an aesthetic professor respectively, run the Laboratories de Phytochimie in Paris, France that manufacture the YON-KA collection for face, body, and sun.
